System Requirements

All users of the Test of College Academic English must have 3 things:

1. A broadband connection to the Internet

2. Java installed

3. TestDeliverer.jnlp on your machine

Check your Java

All users of the Test of College Academic English must install the application TestDeliverer. This is done by downloading TestDeliverer.jnlp. by clicking the link Take Your Test on the Home page.

Detailed installation instructions are given below.

Installation Procedure for Windows Operating Systems

1. Check that you have Java installed by clicking the link called Check your Java.
   

If the reply is “Java is Installed!” then go to Step 3.


If you cannot see the window called Diagnostic Tool, or if the reply is "Java is Outdated” then you need to install Java on your machine.


If you are using Internet Explorer, then you can go directly to Step 3, because Explorer will automatically download and install Java if necessary.


If you are using Firefox (and other less popular browsers) you need to download and install Java yourself.

If you don’t have Java, TestDeliverer.jnlp will still download to your machine, but it will not install nor will it launch; rather you will get a message saying that you don’t have the required version of Java.


2. To install Java, log in to your machine as a user with administrator privileges (if it is your own personal machine, you will already administrator privileges).
   

Then press the link Get Java. The will automatically install Java on your machine.

Then click Free Java Download and the install process will begin.


3. To install TestDeliverer.jnlp, click the link Take Your Test on the Home Page http://www.CAEtest.com. This will download the application. You can also click the link Practice Test on the Home Page. This will also download the TestDeliverer.jnlp application.

   When the application has downloaded and installed, it will open automatically.

4. Creating a shortcut.
   

When the application first opens, you will be asked if you want to create a shortcut to the application, in your Programs directory, on your Desktop, or in another place of your choosing. It is better to say “Yes”.


If all the users of TestDeliverer will all have administrator privileges, then it is easier to leave the shortcut on the Desktop.


If the application will be used by a user, or users, who does not have administrator privileges (called limited users), then move the shortcut from your Desktop to your Shared Documents directory. Then login to the limited user’s account and move the shortcut to their Desktop and/or the Quick Launch Toolbar.

Installation Procedure for Mac Operating Systems

1. If you have a Mac, you probably have java installed. But if you want to check whether you have Java installed, click the link called Check your Java.
   

   If the reply is “Java is Installed!” then go to Step 3.
   

   If you cannot see the window called Diagnostic Tool, or if the reply is "Java is Outdated” then you need to install Java on your machine.
   

   If you don’t have Java, TestDeliverer.jnlp will still download to your machine, but it will not install; rather you will get a message saying that you don’t have the required version of Java.
   

2. To install Java, open Software Update and install all updates that are missing from your machine, or at least you need to install the Java updates.

3. To install TestDeliverer.jnlp, click the link Take Your Test on the Home Page http://www.CAEtest.com. This will download the application. You can also click the link Practice Test on the Home Page.
   

   The application will be installed in your Applications directory.
   

   When the application has downloaded and installed, it will open automatically.
   

4. Creating a shortcut.

   The application will save to your Downloads folder, and will open
   

   You can then use the Test of College Academic English.

   

Installation Procedure for Other Operating Systems

1. Check the diagnostic tool below. If it states "Java is Installed!" skip to Step 2. If you cannot see the tool or it states "Java is Outdated Please Get Java/Update Java" please Get Java.

2. Download and Save the 'Application.jnlp' appropriate for your operating system to your programs directory.

3. Install/Run (usually by double clicking it) using the Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. The install will then prompt you to create a shortcut to the application on your desktop.

   

Java Requirements

Your systems Java information:

All of Lidget Green Inc. applications are platform independent and require that Java is installed. Each of the applications automatically update. Their networking requires a direct connection to the Internet or a web proxy server address (This may be attained from your IT technician and quickly configured in the applications menu bar by going View/LAN Settings). Web Start try's to do an Auto LAN Settings Configuration from your default web browsers network settings; this may fail if the browsers proxy settings are not configured and use of a proxy server to access the internet is required.
