College Academic English

The test of College Academic English (CAE) is a secure online test of general English, set in the US college environment.

The test can be used for student placement, or student progress in ESL study programs, or as a general proficiency test. It is especially suitable for programs that teach academic English, or programs that prepare students for US college study.

• The CAE assesses listening and reading. Currently, two forms of the test are available, Form A and Form B.
  

• It is designed to cover the full range of ESL ability, from beginner to advanced. The CAE Reporting Scale, Text Topic and Tasks, and Ways to Improve are avalible here.
  

• It is available in both internet-based versions, and paper and pencil versions.
  

• Scores are reported on a scale that runs from 5 to 70.

• The scale is associated with proficiency descriptors that help interpret the scores.
